“Yeah… Skinhead!”

Today, at the university’s cafeteria, between two classes.

George bought a SONY DSCH2 and I was playing with it. George was in front of me at the table. Behind him, a nice Polish blond “face” =)

I was playing with the camera, zooming in, zooming out on this girl.

One of the guys that shared the table with this girl suddenly comes to us and yells something in Polish. We scared him with “In English, please!” and waited for his neuron to get out of the shortcircuit… and waited… and waited… and waited.

February 27th

I apologize but Rux’s post is the post of the day! Hmm… In case she deletes it because of too many “F…..bad words”, it’s here as well :D

Info: Rux is an Erasmus in Kemi, Finland (January - April 2007)

and then he said: let there be Internet!
27 02 2007

Motto: “Pinky, are you pondering what i’m pondering?”/”I think so Brain, but where are we going to find a monkey in a tu-tu at this hour?”

So…we’ve been trying to get this stupid internet connection here since we came, that is on the 12th of January!!! Needless to say we had been emailing our “tutor” here (the head of student union) a couple of months before arriving and of course she said it’s ok, you can get it in no time just have to make a “small” deposit of 300euros because we’re not residents, bla, bla… Ok…we got here, we head directly to the nearest provider (there are only 2, so…) we said we’re exchange, we would like to pay for an internet connection, we have the 300 euros, we have passports…
“yes, of course! it will take 3 weeks to open it.”
“what the fuck?!!? how come???(the lines/cables are already in the building, I saw that the first day we were here: UTP!!!UTP!!!) you know…you just have to switch it on or something…”.
Went across the street to the other ISP thinking we can surely get it faster: “it’s impossible without the Finnish social no.”. Went back to the first one: “ok, we’ll take it :D”

Home Dinners

OK. This is getting too weird.

For a week, after we came here, we ate almost every day at Ramzes Restaurant, paying around 20 - 25 PLN for a full dinner (first course/main course/desert/drinks - every time 3 of these).

Hmm… might I say that 6 EUR for a chic meal on the main street, in a cosy atmosphere, is not at all that much?!

But for an every day meal, it can get to you.
So we decided to start cooking indoors. Bought a pan, a pot, etc.

Two days ago… we had chicken with rice and vegetables
- two chickens - 18 PLN
- rice and vegetables - 4 PLN
= 22 PLN divided by 3 ~= 7 PLN ~= 2 EUR each

Today we had some French fries with some fish fingers. All in all 9 PLN = 3 PLN each = LESS than 1 EUR each.

And I say… what the fuck?! Pardon my French!

IMG_0193This is just another new girlish thing in our bathroom.

What do you think?!

Don’t you long for one of this as well?

It’s all just 3.99, including taxes and you also get a Finnish girl with it :p

All we know so far is that she likes that we keep the bathroom clean, and that it smells nice after we take showers, and that it’s good that we lower the toilet seat.

And the only reason she gave for locking the door every time she goes out or in the room, is that she wants to through up alone in the room /:) ?!

I wonder if she remembers my name, since yesterday evening she specifically said “wear the same yellow shirt so that I know you are Andrei”. Anyway, she’s funny after having a beer. That’s… good… I guess :)

Meet Sinni (nor Cini, Sinie, Sinnie, etc.) Sini!

Cătă’s Den ;)

IMG_0190 For all of you who are wondering, this is where

  • he licks his wounds
  • he rests for tomorrow’s wild action (eating, chatting with Alexandra, eating, sleeping some more, and being the “ardelean” that he really is)
  • he doesn’t listen to music in order to fall asleep since I cannot fall asleep like that
  • I look down TO him!!! :D

Letter to ‘prieten drag’

‘Prieten drag’,

avatarThanks for all your crazy avatars, with all your Bob-Marley thing, or old shoes (traverşi?! i-am nimerit? nu-mi mai îmi amintesc avatarul bine :p), or old man, or Danube Delta’s house… or with your funky photoshop-ed or coolish non-photoshop-ed photos :)

And thanks for carrying for my “fetish” for Swedish, and giving me a link to YouTube’s Swedish Bare Necessities. All the way from Finland, where you miss your “ciorbă de burtă”. Though - yuck! For the Swedish version, that is :)

* Post Scriptum

how come no avatar with Superstars!?.. Oh, yes! That’s because you wear them all day long. Btw, nice trick to leave your pink ones on the hall way, so that the girls keep bumping into them and think “Rux’s in the house!?” ;)

IMG_0192Our Finnish module-mate came.

So far, it’s not as quiet as before and our bathroom is now full of “new-ish” girlish stuff.

It’s “interesting” I would say, but it’s not the Scandinavian taste I was looking for.

One thing that we find really weird is that she’s locking the door every time she enters or leaves the room!!! Nice!

It says much about trust. Don’t you think?

So far a Hi here, a Hi there… I wonder where’s the Scandinavian “Hello people!” with a small smile, and yelling “I-fear-nothing” ?

It’s looking better already! =)

IMG_0176So yesterday we were at the official dinner party. It was nice. A bit of a weird scenario with the staff at a smaller table, and then the students at the other two tables. I’m not making any fuss about it :) it’s just that I had a flashback of how things are done some place else ;)

The club that we have been to, Fanaberya, had quite a weird music and we noticed that it had an entrance fee - not happening at Kalinska or Honey Bunny =)) What a name for a club!

I guess that until 1 AM, there were only two new songs, plus songs like Akcent’s (Romanian band) or E-type’s or, or, or… There were songs that I haven’t been listening for ages!!! Felt like living in the 90s, but not just listening to its music. Being in the position to dance - I didn’t :) It felt too weird. I’m not that old to dance on oldies =)

But, like this photo, there was something “red” during the night. Spent some time having a mildly childish conversation with “a beauty” =)) Felt really good for lifting up my spirits, though I have no chance with her :p Maybe in an Armani suite or who knows? I don’t know what she means by “high standards” :)

I have understood one reason that might be true for Polish people not speaking English. Youth! - Due to the differences in the topic, they are quite afraid of speaking in English. Could be, but still, in shops people are not even understanding, and that should be a basic thing for a nation that doesn’t have dubbed movies, right?

Well, I’m glad she is not afraid to speak, but she speaks really well anyway :) Though she thinks Swedish is not that much of a nice language, so we might have a fight now then over this. Är jag rätt, Angelika?

Past the gibberish and the flirts, today we had another UP. We went to a nearby supermarket that is cheap, and has mostly everything, except good wine - but that is something usual around here, I’m afraid :(. They have only stupid Californian, French, Bulgarian, German, etc. They even have Moldavian wine!! But no Romanian, no Czech… I’ll probably start trying Argentinian wine and maybe Spanish… but the other ones - no thanks!

So E.Leclerc is our new shopping-home :D It’s the perfect “shop around the corner” ;)

Not to mention that we were so happy to have the cashier-lady speaking in English and also smiling! So far we had only some smiling ladies, but no English. It was always like… something in Polish, then “I’m sorry. I don’t speak Polish.” and then just a big “Ohhh” and a smile in return.

And we had quite a nice meal with only 7 PLN each. Tomorrow we’ll just need to get some pots and other kitchen tools, and we’re set! Wait til you meet Chef Andrei :p

Later Edit
The guys (Erasmus students) in Finland went into a club, and there people were listening to Akcent as well. Loosers!!! The Finnish, not my buddies, that is!

Official “party”

IMG_0129This evening we were invited by the Erasmus office of WSHE to a restaurant and a pub.

Let’s see if the restaurant beats Ramzes =)

Ramzes so far has proved marvelous, except for their pizzas. I don’t know where they learned that pizza should have bitter cheese, but this is how they do it. Plus the vegetables are quite raw, not cooked.

Other than that, you can have my favorite - chicken breast in horse radish sauce, with salad and grilled potatoes. And 1L of Tyskie ;) All in all 25 PLN

Unfortunately, beer is not as cheap as in Czech Republic :( But we can manage :p Debowę is also quite good. We haven’t tried the other ones so far, but there’s a lot of time to it.

And, the trick to all this official party restaurant -will the waiter speak English?! :D

Lodz in all its glory

IMG_0095

Legend:

  • the purple street on the right is the road that we use to go in the center by foot, from our Dormitory (not shown on the map)
  • the purple street on the left is Piotrkowska - the longest shopping street in Europe (nice, but not “wow”)
  • the baby blue circle marks Manufaktura - a mall with bowling, cinema, shops, some pubs and restaurants, and also a skating ring that we will try soon :)
  • the two circles in the middle mark the Lodz Gallery (another Mall) and Silver Screen (a cinema-plex)
  • the orange streets are Rewolucji and Sterlinga - the streets where we have the courses

But remember: “Uge” is huge! (sigh: really?)

I still want to rent a bike, but I don’t think I’ll be able to. And if I leave in 3 months, I don’t know if there’s any point in buying a Second Hand one. To give you a slight overview over the distances, the purple street on the left, from top to bottom is 3km.
